Send us a short ticket with the domain name and we will switch the status from „Locked“ to „Active“. No questions, no justification, no hurdles. You currently cannot change the status yourself in the web interface.
What does „Locked“ mean?
„Locked“ is a transfer lock at the registrar. As long as it is active, the domain cannot be moved to another provider. The lock protects you against unwanted transfers: even someone who gets hold of the auth code cannot simply move the domain away.
For many extensions (for example .com, .net, .org) the registrar sets this status again automatically after a while. This also happens if the domain was unlocked before and the transfer never took place. So ideally start your transfer right after we have unlocked the domain.
How can I check whether my domain is transfer locked?
Look up your domain in a public WHOIS or RDAP service, for example the ICANN Lookup. If the domain status lists „clientTransferProhibited“, the transfer lock is active. Without this entry the domain can be transferred, provided you have the auth code.
What about .de domains?
.de does not have this status. To transfer a .de domain you only need the auth code, no unlocking is required.
How unlocking works
- Open a ticket (see How do I open a support ticket?) and name the domain. One sentence is enough.
- We set the status to „Active“ and let you know.
- Start the transfer at your new provider as soon as possible. If you wait too long, the registrar may lock the domain again automatically. In that case, just contact us again.
Once the transfer has been requested, the domain shows the status „Pending Transfer“ for a while. More on that in Domain Status: Pending Transfer.
When we cannot unlock your domain
After a new registration, a transfer or a change of owner, many extensions apply a transfer lock period set by the registry. Neither we nor the registrar can lift this period early. It expires on its own.
Don’t worry: we won’t stop you from moving your domain, and we will answer your ticket as quickly as usual.
