On a Mac you connect to your Windows Server with the free Windows App from Microsoft, which was called Microsoft Remote Desktop until 2024. Install it from the App Store, add a new PC with the IPv4 address of your server and log in as Administrator with the admin password from the „Server Info“ card in the Cloud Manager.
The data you need
- PC name or host: the IPv4 address of your server, for example
62.68.75.69 - User:
Administrator - Password: the admin password from the „Server Info“ card in the Cloud Manager
Set up the connection
- Install the free Windows App from Microsoft from the App Store.
- Add a new PC in the app and enter the IPv4 address of your server.
- Start the connection and log in with
Administratorand the admin password. - On the first connection the app warns about the certificate. That is normal, your server uses a self-signed certificate. Confirm the warning to continue.
The same app also exists for iPhone and iPad. The setup works the same way, which is enough for short tasks on the go.
Why RDP instead of VNC
VNC in the Cloud Manager is only meant as an emergency access. For daily work, RDP is the better choice:
- full screen and multiple monitors
- your local keyboard layout
- faster and sharper screen transfer
- encrypted connection
Connection does not work?
- Wrong password: My Windows RDP password isn’t working
- „Internal error“: Windows: Internal Error with Remote Desktop
- Server not reachable at all: Use VNC in the Cloud Manager as emergency access.
- Other people should log in too: Windows Remote Desktop: Create user
